Peru to submit nomination proposals for UNESCO's World Heritage List

13:29 | Lima, Apr. 11.

The Peruvian State will submit 18 nomination proposals of natural, cultural, and mixed sites to the World Heritage List, thanks to joint efforts by the Ministry of Culture and the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp).

Some of these proposals are available below:

Natural sites

Sierra del Divisor National Park (likely to become a transboundary site).
Guano Islands, Isles and Capes System (composed of the Guano Islands, Isles and Capes National Reserve System, the Paracas National Reserve, and the San Fernando National Reserve).
The Huayllay Stone Forest.
The Lomas Costeras System (composed of the Lachay National Reserve, the Lomas de Ancon Reserved Area, and the Lomas de Atiquipa Private Conservation Area).

Cultural sites

• The Site of the Ayacucho Battle. The Pampas de Ayacucho Historic Sanctuary was established for its conservation.

Mixed sites

Lambayeque's forests and pyramids (composed of the Pomac Forest Historical Sanctuary and the Tucume Pyramids).

Paleontological sites in Pisco (Ica) and Camana (Arequipa) basins.

The inclusion of these sites in UNESCO's World Heritage List means an international recognition to Peru for its valuable support, as well as its natural-cultural heritage for the world and future generations.

Only countries that have signed the World Heritage Convention, pledging to protect their natural and cultural heritage, can submit nomination proposals for properties on their territory to be considered for inclusion in UNESCO's World Heritage List.
