National authorities, led by Prime Minister Luis Arroyo, through the Presidency of the Council of Ministers' (PCM) Disaster Risk Management Secretariat, hold working meetings with stakeholders involved in disaster risk management.

To this end, and in order to continue adopting immediate measures, the Executive Branch has intensified interinstitutional coordination efforts to reduce El Niño phenomenon impacts across the South American country.

One of these meetings was held Wednesday at the Lima-based National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), where progress in implementing risk reduction, preparedness, and response measures was assessed.

As part of these measures, authorities are closely monitoring weather conditions and progress in the implementation of river, stream, drain, and canal cleaning, desilting, and protection works, among other interventions.

To support these efforts, more than S/2.419 billion (above US$716 million) has been executed to date under the 2025–2027 Multisectoral Plan for Intense Rainfall and Associated Hazards, approved by Supreme Decree No. 005-2025-PCM and its amendment.

Likewise, technical assistance is being provided to public officials at all three levels of government, with the aim of strengthening their capacities to respond to emergencies and disasters.

The Executive Branch is urging regional governments to make proper use of available financial mechanisms to identify resources and prioritize the execution of risk reduction and preparedness measures for El Niño phenomenon, as well as to approve disaster risk management plans.

So far, only the regional governments of Ancash, Huanuco, Junin, Puno, and San Martin have complied with this important task.

The Executive Branch reiterated its commitment to continuing to strengthen coordination among the different levels of government to protect the population and reduce the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.
