The Prosecutor's Office has requested the judicial preliminary detention of Peruvian National Police (PNP) Non-Commissioned Officers Luis Magallanes and Omar Saavedra, who are under investigation for the death of Eduardo Mauricio Ruiz Sanz after he was shot during the mobilization on October 15.

Both agents are under investigation for the alleged crime of aggravated homicide by the Third Supra-Provincial Prosecutor's Office Specializing in Human Rights and Anti-Terrorism.

According to the Public Ministry on social media, the measure aims to ensure the presence of these police agents while investigations continue so as to clarify the incident.

Eduardo Ruiz, 32, was shot near Plaza Francia in downtown Lima after taking part in the demonstration.

Both policemen belong to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirincri) and were near Plaza Francia when the tragic incident occurred.

Arriola stated that Magallanes was attacked by protesters during the demonstration and has been diagnosed with multiple injuries.

Thus, he is currently hospitalized at the Police Hospital, where he was notified of his detention for the investigation.

In turn, Magallanes' lawyer, Stefano Miranda, denied that his client had fired the shot.
