Peru to face France in decisive World Cup match

00:03 | Ekaterinburg (Russia), Jun. 21.

Peru's national soccer team will today play France in its second and decisive match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

The clash is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 PM (local time) at Ekaterinburg Arena.

The red-white delegation arrived in the aforementioned Russian city last Tuesday for this important World Cup match.

Prior to this game, the squad held four training sessions with the purpose of giving a great performance in its second appearance at soccer's mega tournament.

For the third consecutive day, Renato Tapia did not take part in the workouts. Andre Carrillo and Alberto Rodriguez also remained on the bench.

Among the team's stars, strikers Paolo Guerrero and Jefferson Farfan stand out. Guerrero is Peru's all-time top scorer, having made a total of 34 goals wearing the red-white jersey.

Coach Ricardo Gareca will decide whether Guerrero and Farfan will be part of the starting lineup as attackers.

As is known, Peru lost to Denmark (0-1) in its World Cup debut in Saransk last Saturday, thus ending the 15-game unbeaten streak. France beat Australia (2-1) on the same day.

The Incas had seen a draw with Sweden (0-0) in a friendly match. They had also defeated Saudi Arabia (3-0), Scotland (2-0), Iceland (3-1), and Croatia (2-0) in other preparatory games.

They currently hold the 11th position in the FIFA ranking.
