14:29 | Gothenburg (Sweden), Jun. 9.
The Peruvian national soccer team Saturday drew 0-0 against Sweden in its last preparatory game at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg towards the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
As expected, it was quite an intense match for Ricardo Gareca's men, but they managed to measure up.
The first half ended goalless and with clear chances to score for both sides.
In the 27th minute, Peruvian
Jefferson Farfan's shot from the left side of the box —assisted by Luis Advincula— was saved in the center of the goal.
Fortunately —for the Inca side— a Viktor Claesson (Sweden) right footed shot was saved in the bottom right corner (40th minute).
The second half began with both teams trying to score one goal, but they failed to do so.
This part of the game saw fewer goal attempts, as well as less intensity.
On the Peruvian side, substitutions started in the 70th minute. Pedro Aquino replaced Renato Tapia and Christian Cueva made way for
Edison Flores.
Plus, Anderson Santamaria and Andy Polo substituted Alberto Rodriguez and Andre Carrillo, respectively.
With this clash,
Gareca's men have played five friendly matches before their debut in the biggest sporting event on the globe. They have beat
Croatia (2-0),
Iceland (3-1),
Scotland (2-0), and
Saudi Arabia (3-0).
While in Russia, the squad is scheduled to hold five training sessions with the purpose of giving a great performance at soccer's mega event.
The national team is placed in Group
C, along with France, Denmark, and Australia.
