Peru's national soccer squad on Tuesday night defeated Iceland (3-1) in the second friendly match towards the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Midfielder Renato Tapia opened the score in the 2nd minute with a superb header. The play had emerged from a free kick by Christian Cueva.
The Inca team's dynamism started to lose momentum as time went by. In the 22nd minute, a header by Jón Fjóluson managed to defeat Peruvian goalkeeper Carlos Caceda.
The first half came to an end with the equalizer.
Yet, a new story was about to be written in the second half.
In the 58th minute, a pass by midfielder Edison Flores would be caught by forward Jefferson Farfan, who moved it Raul Ruidiaz, the one that slid it into the net for the partial 2-1. Peru was regaining momentum.
Finally, a pass by Miguel Trauco would reach Farfan's foot, which —smoothly— turned it into the game's winning goal.
The game took place at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
