Peruvian national soccer team on Tuesday night defeated its Scottish counterpart (2-0) at Lima's National Stadium as part of preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Peru was able to sow fear in the 34th minute when the powerful forward —and Russia-based FC Lokomotiv star— Jefferson Farfan faced goalkeeper Jordan Archer in the visiting team's area. He shot the ball which hit defender Scott McKenna's hands. The referee thus called for a penalty.
The ball was shot by Christian Cueva who slid it into the net, thus scoring the first goal for Peru (37th minute).
The first half ended with a partial victory for the home team.
Once the second half kicked off, local midfielder Yoshimar Yotun drove the ball into the rival's area as he intended to serve a pass that was blocked by a British player.
However, the Orlando City player got the ball back which he —successfully— passed to Farfan, whose shot ended up in the net (47th minute), although Archer had weakly touched the ball for a couple seconds.
The match came to an end with a final victory for the Peruvians.
The game marked the
Inca squad's farewell to its country before heading for Europe for its last two friendlies. Within this framework, it will face Saudi Arabia in Switzerland (June 3) and host-team Sweden (June 9).
The red-white squad's first match will be played against Denmark (June 16). Then, the Incas will clash with France (June 21) before facing Australia (June 26).
