Peru President: Citizens demand a new destiny

13:28 | Lima, Aug. 16.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday affirmed Peruvians demand a new political destiny, as well as to be able to decide their future at the polls, just like in any democracy.

"It (voting) is a right that no one can impede," the Head of State expressed.

"(…) The entire Peru demands opening a new stage with a view to our Independence Bicentennial (in 2021)," he added.

Likewise, the top official indicated Army members know the defense of the homeland nowadays means fighting against the enemies that seek to undermine the State's foundations

"Not even a single step backwards against those groups that seek to affect the Peruvian population's unity and strength. Not even a single step backwards on the frontal fight against poverty, inequality, corruption, and impunity that have caused so much harm to our country," the statesman said.

Furthermore, President Vizcarra reiterated his administration respects the separation and independence of powers, the rule of law, and the institutionalism of the Armed Forces.

Moreover, he underlined the Army is a solid and professional institution that respects the legal and constitutional order, noting it not only guards and defends the national territory, but also contributes actively to the economic and social development of the Inca country.

The event took place in the capital city of Lima.
