Peru President calls on citizens to not let impunity win

12:01 | Lima, May. 30.

President Martin Vizcarra has called on citizens to take a stand and make progress in the reforms Peru needs, as well as to not allow immunity to win.

"Dear Peruvians, this is the moment. You are the ones who can truly reverse this situation," the Head of State expressed.

"Without you, today Peru would not probably be aware of the existence of mafias that had taken control of the State branches and that have caused us so much harm. You are the protagonists of the most important changes this administration is promoting," he added.

Likewise, the top official indicated the great challenge is to lay the foundations for the country's Independence Bicentennial in 2021.

In this sense, he pointed out that —if that does not happen— the opportunity to leave a better nation for the children will be lost.

"I am sure I can count on your support. You can count on this President and his team to join you in this fight to build the Peru we deserve," the statesman concluded.

Remarks were made during a live address to the nation from Lima-based Government Palace. Peru's top official was joined by members of his cabinet and regional governors on the occasion.
