on Monday reaffirmed Peru's historic and irrevocable commitment to respect, promote, and defend human rights, plus the fundamental liberties of everyone —during her speech at the High-Level Segment of the 52nd Regular Session of the Human Rights Council.
Likewise, the high-ranking official stressed that the Peruvian State is conducting the corresponding investigations in the civil jurisdiction to identify, prosecute, and punish those responsible for affecting lives, integrity, as well as public and private property.
Furthermore, the minister reported that the Government has established a multisectoral commission, in which guests, such as members of the Ombudsman's Office and the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, participate to attend to the bereaved and those who suffered serious injuries during the demonstrations. Similarly, she specified that, within the framework of these works, the delivery of solidarity support has been approved.
The high-ranking official indicated that the Public Defense Department at the Justice-Human Rights Ministry has provided attention (115) to relatives of the people deceased and injured during the demonstrations nationwide, as well as legal protection to 432 detainees.
Besides, in a joint effort with the Culture Ministry, translators for Quechua, Aymara, and Ashaninka serve with a multilingual approach.
"The Government of President Dina Boluarte is convinced that the way out of this difficult situation is through a broad and inclusive social dialogue. We recognize the support that organizations, such as the United Nations, can provide to complement our efforts so as to build bridges among Peruvians. We also recognize the importance of listening to legitimate social demands," she expressed.
The representatives, who arrived in Peru at the invitation of the Government, relied on all support so that they could meet with authorities, civil society representatives, and those affected by the unfortunate events.
