The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte received a delegation from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on Thursday afternoon.

Said delegation was led by Christian Salazar Volkmann, Director of the Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division of the aforementioned office.

Likewise, the mission was made up of Igor Garafulic, Maia Campbell, and Fritz Boehm.

On the Peruvian side, the Head of State was accompanied by Justice Minister Jose Andres Tello Alfaro and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ignacio Higueras.

During the meeting, President Boluarte explained the events that have occurred in the country since December 7, 2022 —the day of the failed self-coup attempt.

Moreover, the dignitary provided information on the social mobilizations, the violence that broke out in the country, and the unfortunate loss of human lives.

For his part, the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights welcomed the willingness of the Peruvian Government to provide information that will help to determine what happened in the country.

Salazar stressed the need to ensure the right to protest, to continue promoting dialogue, and to investigate acts of violence and vandalism that occurred in Peru in order to be punished.
