President Vizcarra: Peru undergoes process of change

Peru currently experiences a process of change that will enable the nation to make a leap towards modernity and development for the benefit of all Peruvians, President Martin Vizcarra affirmed on Wednesday.

The Head of State underlined that his administration is firmly committed to growth, investment promotion, and job creation. Thus, the top official said he is convinced the mining sector is also on the same path.

"Peru is now experiencing a process of change, and we all must be part of it. The great challenges of the country must be assumed together by putting the interests of the country ahead," he expressed.

Within this framework, the President mentioned the Executive Branch gives special importance to the joint work between the public and private sectors, with a view to making the leap to modernity and development.

The statesman stressed that, if these joint efforts are successful, a more fair, prosperous, productive, competitive, and sustainable country can be built.

Opportunities

According to the President, Peru needs to climb the next step of economic and social growth with the aim of generating opportunities for all.

An example of these efforts are the progress made in the fight against poverty, the provision of education and health services, as well as the reduction of infrastructure gaps, among others.

Before a crowd —composed of authorities, representatives of business associations, and specialists— the dignitary said his administration is working hard to lead Peru on the growth path.

In this sense, he stressed that since June the national economy has entered an upward growth trend, as the factors —which had affected the country's progress in the first half of the year— are dissipating.

"The fundamentals of our economy are solid. We are the only country in the region with an investment grade that has maintained its credit rating and has a stable outlook over the last 18 months."

However, in order to end inequalities, increase productivity and competitiveness, as well as to generate jobs, it is necessary for the economy to grow at higher rates, he concluded.

Remarks were made during the 34th edition of Perumin, the world's second-largest mining convention taking place in Peru's southern city of Arequipa.
