Peru: The only country in the region to retain credit rating

10:55 | Lima, Jun. 26.

Peru is the only country in the region to retain its A3 investment grade credit rating with a stable outlook, the Inca country's Economy and Finance Ministry has affirmed.

In June 2018 and March 2019, Standard and Poor's (S&P) Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings, respectively, maintained Peru's rating at 'BBB+' with a stable outlook.

"Peru is the only country in the region to retain its A3 investment grade credit rating with stable outlook assigned by the three major credit rating agencies," it underlined.

This rating confirmation contrasts with those of other countries in the region, whose rating has been downgraded with a negative outlook.

In this sense, Minister Carlos Oliva said Moody's rating confirmation acknowledges the economy's demonstrated resilience to shocks in recent years.

"We acknowledge the economic policy management and the macro-fiscal strengths, just as we acknowledge the responsible fiscal policy management, which allows Peru to remain attractive for investors," he pointed out.
