00:00 | Medellin (Colombia), Jun. 28.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio has highlighted the work done by the Organization of American States (OAS) in the promotion and defense of democracy and human rights, as well as in the fight against corruption and gender violence.

According to the high-ranking official, these efforts reflect the values and principles of the organization and attend to the main needs and demands of the citizens.

Furthermore, the Minister stressed it is essential to contribute to the restoration of democratic order in the Bolivarian nation via free, fair, and transparent elections. For that reason, Peru has called for a Conference for Democracy in Venezuela set to take place in Lima on August 6.

On the other hand, Popolizio pointed out it is necessary for the prevention and fight against corruption to occupy a central place in the agenda.

"Its destructive effects undermine democratic governance and the rule of law, as well as the effective exercise of human rights and sustainable development," he expressed.
