Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio expressed his country's deep concern about the current situation in Venezuela at the 48th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).

In this sense, the cabinet member on Monday assured Peru will remain active and vigilant until democratic order is restored in the Bolivarian nation and the humanitarian crisis is properly taken care of.

Likewise, Lima Group members and the United States addressed a resolution to launch a process aimed at suspending Venezuela from the OAS.

During the OAS highest level-meeting, Popolizio also reiterated the call for violence to cease in Nicaragua and for the resumption of effective dialogue to overcome the social and political crisis affecting that Central American country.

Furthermore, the Foreign Affairs Minister highlighted the adoption of the Lima Commitment "Democratic Governance against Corruption" at the 8th Summit of the Americas held last April in Lima.

In this regard, he noted Peru has presented an implementation plan, which includes the creation of a webpage to transparently follow up on the measures adopted by nations in compliance with the Lima Commitment.

Similarly, he stressed the Peruvian State is fully committed to the frontal fight against gender violence, adding that President Martin Vizcarra has ordered the establishment of an emergency commission to face this problem.
