The U-23 Pan-American Baseball Championship officially opened today with great excitement and enthusiasm, at the Andres Avelino Caceres Sports Complex in Villa Maria del Triunfo, Lima, Peru.

The tournament will run through Sunday, October 26, welcoming national teams from across the continent, including Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, and host nation Peru.

During the opening ceremony, the participating countries paraded across the diamond in a formal presentation attended by sports authorities such as Jorge Sivirichi, president of the Peruvian Baseball Federation, and Javier Ramos, president of the South American Baseball Confederation.

More than one hundred athletes are competing for a direct qualification spot at the U-23 Baseball World Cup, which will take place in Nicaragua from November 6 to 15, 2026.

The event also aims to highlight the growth and international projection of South American baseball, while reinforcing Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) venues as a major sports hub for the region.

This championship provides valuable experience for U-23 athletes as they prepare to compete successfully at the global level and contribute to the expansion of the sport in Peru and throughout South America. It also seeks to strengthen the category’s collective development.

“This U-23 category is a tough one. We’re facing opponents ranked higher than us. We have a chance to finish among the top three, but we have to fight for every game. Baseball is a team sport. Preparation has been difficult due to the location of our training facilities, but the group is responsible and committed to the tournament,” said national U-23 team manager Juan Carlos Perozo.

“We have a lot of work ahead to keep developing this sport. Throughout my career, both as part of the staff and now as head coach, I’ve experienced great competitive moments. What we want now is consistency, and that’s what we’re working for”, he added.

The Peruvian Baseball Federation, with the support of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), continues to promote the mass participation, development, and strengthening of baseball in the country, with the goal of nurturing new generations of athletes and consolidating Peru’s position as a leading nation in South American baseball.
