President Vizcarra: Peru is at decisive moment in war against COVID-19

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday stressed that Peru is at a decisive moment in the war against a common, invisible and implacable enemy, such as COVID-19, which threatens the health and lives of citizens.

For this reason, the Head of State reaffirmed his message for unity and responsibility, noting "that unity is required, and not divisiveness; responsibility instead of recklessness; collaboration and not confrontations; solidarity and not selfishness."

According to the top official, it is necessary to stand united and for the 33 million Peruvians to form a single trench, thus helping stop the pandemic.

"In this war, we are all soldiers," he noted.

Pensioners

Likewise, President Vizcarra proposed that one of the priority issues to be addressed by the Peru Pact

includes the problem faced by Public Pension System (ONP) affiliate members.

"Our pensioners, who gave years of work and effort to the country, deserve recognition from the State," he underlined.

In this sense, the statesman pointed out that the country's challenges must be tackled by promoting dialogue and seeking consensus, adding that the Expanded Coordinating Committee of the National Agreement will meet on Wednesday prior to the first Peru Pact meeting.

"We need to lay the foundations that allow us to move towards the Bicentennial and grant Peru viability and a clear horizon. We are going to achieve that through everyone's effort and contribution, respecting the political and ideological differences that always exist, but putting Peru first," he concluded.

Remarks were made during his participation in the ceremony to commemorate the 199th anniversary of the Republican Army foundation.
