President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday attended the 199th anniversary ceremony of the establishment of the Republican Army in Peru.

With this act, the Peruvian Legion of the Guard created by General Jose de San Martin —through a protective decree on August 18, 1821— was commemorated.

The Peruvian Guard Legion constitutes the first military unit of the new nation, with which the Republican Army of Peru was founded.

Today's event took place at the Army Headquarters in Lima.

It also saw the participation of Prime Minister Walter Martos, Defense Minister Jorge Chavez and military authorities.
