Peru: Health Min demands unity to confront COVID-19

15:53 | Lima, Jul. 20.

Peruvian Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti on Monday called for unity in order to resist the onslaught of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).

Likewise, the high-ranking official indicated that a strategy will be implemented from the sanitary point of view, adding that it consists in controlling damage at hospitals and that containment efforts are undertaken at the first level of care.

According to the government official, the best strategy against the pandemic is to attack the coronavirus at hospitals, as well as to look for those infected house-by-house and provide them with anti-COVID-19 drugs, for which unity is required across the country.

"United we will resist. This is not the time to be disunited, looking for culprits; we must leave the disorder behind," she said and insisted that joining efforts with the country's local authorities is necessary so that —little by little— all Peruvians can have access to primary care in order to detect the virus and prevent it from affecting the health of those infected.

The head of Minsa pointed out that decisions made in the interior of the country are also important, thus requesting coordination with social players, as well as with regional and local authorities.

"If everyone goes their own way, we will not be able to resist," she warned.

As is known, Mazzetti was sworn in as the new Minister of Health last Wednesday to replace Victor Zamora in the post.
