Peru's President: It is time for unity and consensus

13:34 | Lima, Aug. 6.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed that it is time for unity and consensus, to put aside division and differences, and instead continue working for the well-being of all Peruvians.

The top official affirmed that time cannot be wasted in political confrontations or conflicts of interest, while the lives of thousands of Peruvians are at risk.

"That is not responsible or consistent with the sense of urgency that the public expects from us (the Government). It is time to put the country first. Today, joined by the new Cabinet, I want to summon all those whom the people —through their vote— entrusted their confidence, thus leaving behind quarrels that do not contribute to the well-being of the country," he added.

The statesman called for working together in order to get out of the difficult situation the nation is currently experiencing, and to avoid obstacles "because we are all part of the same team: Peru's team."

"Unity is the only way to build the country we all want," he suggested.
