The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, on Wednesday evening emphasized that the country needs dialogue and calm at this moment, rejecting behaviors that seek violence.

The top official indicated that citizen expression in the streets is a right in response to years of neglect by the Peruvian State.

However, he said, a small group will not be allowed to use violence as a means.

"A small group is attempting to disrupt the peaceful willingness of those who have taken to the streets today to express themselves. Such behavior only seeks chaos and violence in our country. Strength to our National Police; we need dialogue and calm," Mr. Jeri pointed out.

The Head of State also shared a video from the Municipality of Lima showing an individual lighting a Molotov cocktail and throwing it at law enforcement agents.

In another message, the top official underscored that joint efforts are extremely important when it comes to ensuring the safety and well-being of those who decided to take to the streets to protest, as well as of our Peruvian National Police.

The police reported that the number of agents involved in clashes with protesters increased.

The President arrived in the area where the acts of violence occurred, near Abancay Avenue, to assess the situation of the injured agents, who are already receiving treatment at hospitals in Lima.
