A mobilization is unfolding through the streets of downtown Lima. The demonstrators reached the front of Congress headquarters, on Abancay Avenue, and were evicted by law enforcement agents, with incidents being reported.

These are various groups of citizens who had previously gathered at nearby locations such as San Martin Square, Dos de Mayo Square, and Paseo de los Heroes Navales public park.

Among them are collectives, groups of artists, and also young people who identify as “Generation Z.” They walked through various streets of the Historic Center.

Afterwards, groups of demonstrators reached Abancay Avenue, where clashes with the police were reported.

Likewise, some citizens were seen attempting to remove the barriers surrounding the Congress building. Fireworks were also set off amid the demonstrations.

In response, a contingent of Peruvian National Police (PNP) agents arrived in the area and pushed back the demonstrators to Parque Universitario.

After remaining at the intersection of Abancay and Nicolas de Pierola Avenues for several minutes, the citizens participating in this protest moved along the latter avenue toward San Martin Square, according to media outlets present in the area.

Injured police

As a result of the clashes, several police personnel were reported injured and evacuated from the zone.

Fifty-five police agents were injured during the demonstrations in downtown Lima.

The injured members are receiving treatment at the PNP Central Hospital and at Augusto B. Leguia Hospital.
