The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday affirmed that Peru's northern border with Ecuador is duly protected against the possible entry of criminals from the neighboring country.

"We are seeking to ensure that criminals from Ecuador do not enter our national territory; so, our (northern) border is protected; that is why we have declared a state of emergency in the border cities," she stated.

Likewise, the top official underscored that the Peruvian Navy is sailing through the Sea of Grau, near the border area.

Specialized police agents, supported by the Army, reached the area as well —all within the constitutional framework.

"They (the Armed Forces) are providing logistical support to our National Police; so, for the moment, here in Peru we call for calm, we call for unity. However, we, as a Government, are alert to what is happening in the north," she added.

Remarks were made after closing the event titled "Chancay-Callao Port Hub 2024: Forum on the Chancay Megaport for Strengthening the Naval Industry in Peru" held at the Peruvian Naval Center in Lima.

During her closing speech at this forum, Mrs. Boluarte indicated that her Government reaffirms its commitment to continue working in close collaboration with all the actors involved so as to guarantee those projects "that turn Peru into a port hub and continue providing tangible benefits in favor of our entire population and future generations."

"This Government will continue to promote large-scale projects; thinking small would make us a small country, but thinking big will make us a big country," she expressed.

Regarding the construction of the Chancay Megaport, Mrs. Boluarte said it will mark "a before and after in the development of our beloved homeland."

In this sense, the top official reminded citizens that the investment in this mega-project is around US$1.3 billion.

She added that its completion will benefit Peru's infrastructure.
