The Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal implementation works will boost the economy, facilitate trade, and generate much more jobs for Peruvian citizens, Prime Minister Alberto Otarola highlighted on Thursday.

During his participation in a forum on said infrastructure, the Cabinet chief stated that this project has generated more than 1,500 jobs to date.

It "will boost the economy, facilitate trade, and generate a lot of employment (opportunities) for Peruvians," he pointed out.

"These works have so far generated more than 1,500 direct jobs," Otarola affirmed.

The prime minister indicated that investment in the 'Megaport' of Chancay exceeds US$1.3 billion at first, and is expected to reach US$3.5 billion.

During the first stage, the signed contracts reach US$810 million, he said.

Similarly, the process of acquiring the port's main operational equipment is underway.

The 'Megaport' "will have the capacity to receive large vessels and meet the growing port demand, with subsequent cost reduction and enhancement in the quality of services," he explained.

Furthermore, the high-ranking official said this infrastructure will boost Peru's global positioning.

"Copper, grains, and trade in general will make sense if they are based on sustainability and competitiveness," he expressed.

Government boost

The Megaport's implementation "is on its way to becoming a reality due to a decision that President Dina Boluarte's Government has made firmly and since day one."

This project is promoted by the Executive Branch "in alliance with the private sector and friendly governments," Otarola underscored.

The start-up of the Chancay 'Megaport' will benefit small and medium-sized enterprises, farmers, "and our entire productive apparatus," he indicated.
