Pfizer's third COVID-19 vaccine batch arrives in Peru

In accordance with the COVID-19 vaccine arrival schedule announced by the Government, the third batch of 50,000 vaccines from Pfizer pharmaceutical company has arrived in Peru to immunize elderly people, as well as members of the National Police and Armed Forces.

The flight that brought the doses landed at Jorge Chavez International Airport in the capital city of Lima on Wednesday evening.

It must be noted that additional Pfizer doses are expected to arrive next month as negotiations continue with different laboratories in order to secure the vaccines to immunize the population.

So far, Peru has guaranteed at least 48 million doses, which will arrive throughout the year.

On Wednesday morning, President Francisco Sagasti affirmed that this new batch of 50,000 Pfizer vaccines will be prioritized for elderly people aged over 60, as well as for members of the National Police and Armed Forces.

According to the Head of State, the amount is "limited" due to the high demand for COVID-19 vaccines around the world.

Yet he noted that 250,000 doses per week will arrive in the country starting April this year, adding that these doses will be used to vaccinate the population in regions with the required cold-chain conditions.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that —concerning Pfizer vaccines— 217,000 doses had arrived in the country until then, adding that Executive Branch authorities have confirmed that the country holds negotiations to secure enough vaccine doses.
