| Lima, Mar. 11.
The Peruvian Government signed agreements with various pharmaceutical companies to
acquire 48 million doses of coronavirus vaccines.
It is also engaged in negotiations with other laboratories to ensure over 80 million doses that will enable the State to immunize the entire population.
So far,
the country has received 1,217,000 doses from different laboratories.
Signed contracts
As reported by the
Foreign Affairs Ministry
, Peru has signed agreements for the acquisition of vaccines with four laboratories:
Sinopharm:
Agreement for 1 million doses
that were delivered in a
first batch of 300,000 last February 7
, plus a
second batch of 700,000 doses on February 13.
The delivery of the first two batches
is part of a framework agreement for the acquisition of a total of 38 million doses
.
The
first 1 million doses allowed the vaccination process to begin for the sake of health personnel nationwide.
Pfizer:
Agreement for 20 million doses
, of which
100,000 have been brought to the country since March 3, 2021.
The laboratory is committed to delivering 50,000 doses per month until reaching 250,000 by the end of March and 300,000 doses in April.
These doses are used by the Government for the vaccination of the elderly,
as well as of
Armed Forces and National Police members.
COVAX Facility:
Agreement for 13.2 million doses
. The
COVAX Facility —a multilateral initiative that seeks to coordinate with vaccine manufacturers an equitable access to vaccines—
has committed doses to immunize 6.6 million Peruvians.
Last Wednesday, the first batch of 117,500 Pfizer doses vaccine landed in Lima —acquired through the COVAX Facility initiative.
There is also a commitment to deliver
400,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses in the first quarter of 2021 —purchased under this mechanism.
AstraZeneca:
Direct agreement for 14 million doses. The delivery of these vaccines will begin in the second half of 2021.
Negotiations in progress
Gamaleya:
Negotiations for the acquisition of 20 million vaccine doses. It is being negotiated with the Russian Direct Investment Fund —a private company associated with the Gamaleya Institute, which produces the Sputnik V vaccine.
Johnson & Johnson:
Negotiations for the purchase of 5 million vaccines. This laboratory produces single-dose vaccines.
Butantan Institute:
Negotiations for 7 million doses. The Brazil-headquartered institute produces the Sinovac vaccine.
