The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday affirmed that looking to the future —a few days before starting the third millennium of Peru's republican life— the nation cannot isolate itself from the world. On the contrary, it must be linked to the globe through exports and tourism.

Within this framework, the Head of State said it is necessary to realize that the world is changing, as do its economic rules.

"(...) in a few days we will begin the third century of independent life; we cannot think of isolating ourselves from the world; we are already linked (to it), and we will always be connected thanks to imports, exports, migrations, tourism, everything," he expressed.

Similarly, the Peruvian leader stressed that the economy was able to recover thanks to efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Economy-Finance and the Central Reserve Bank.

"But the problem is, and this is a call to young people, that if we believe that politics or the public sector is very crooked and we do not get involved, we will not be governed by the people who are truly needed. Peru can become really extraordinary if we include ourselves towards achieving that," he added.

Remarks were made during the High-Level Dialogue titled: "The challenge of development for Peruvian economy: Visions of the Bicentennial for the third century of Peru."

On this occasion, the President was joined by Economy-Finance Minister Waldo Mendoza and Central Reserve Bank Governor Julio Velarde.

As is known, President Sagasti's term in office will end on July 28, 2021.
