Congress Chairman Francisco R. Sagasti Hochhausler was sworn in as President of the Republic in a Parliament solemn session held on Tuesday afternoon.

Given that he has assumed the Presidency of the Republic, Parliament's First Vice Chairwoman Mirtha Vasquez has become Congress' main official.

At the beginning of the solemn session, attendees observed a minute of silence for Inti Sotelo and Bryan Pintado, the young citizens who died during the demonstrations held in Peru last weekend. It must be noted that their relatives were invited to today's ceremony.

The event was held at Parliament headquarters in Lima.
