Peruvian Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Tuesday affirmed that public officials have a responsibility to serve with integrity and transparency, without taking advantage of their position for their own benefit.

According to the Cabinet chief, there are more than 1.5 million public servants in the country.

"I want to recognize all those officials who fulfill their functions with integrity, responsibility, and commitment to the country," the Prime Minister emphasized.

"We cannot let the behavior and attitude of a few officials tarnish the work of service to the country that we carry out," she added.

The high-ranking official indicated that public servants work hard in a particularly special context, not only because of the pandemic but also because the country faces a series of crises.

She went on to say that the Transition Government took on the responsibility of leading the country convinced that it would be a transparent and neutral Government focused on serving people and achieving realistic results.

In the presence of regional governors —who participated in the meeting— the Prime Minister explained that the Transition Government considers five lines of action, two of which encompass elections under the principle of neutrality and transparency, as well as the fight against the pandemic.

Remarks were made at the plenary session of the 13th GORE-Executive meeting.
