Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti stressed the importance of restoring citizens' confidence in their representatives and remarked that his administration will continue working to address the COVID-19 pandemic, revive employment, and make up for the lost time in education.
The Head of State noted that many of the current demands are the same as those made 20 years ago, when he led the Agenda Peru Project.
"We have eight months, but we will address the urgent ones because this is not a long-term development strategy, but a set of urgencies and emergencies. We will ensure that demands, requests, and emergencies are properly addressed," he said.
For this reason, he affirmed that there are three priority topics which will be addressed by his transitional administration as head of the Executive Branch.
When asked about how he would react if there is a new attempt to create instability by political forces at Parliament, the country's top official indicated that he would act immediately to stop those actions.
"My hand does not tremble when I write, when I caress, or when I hit. So, rest assured that if we go from a cordial relationship to another one in which we see an attempt to create instability, or direct treasons, I will have the determination to stop these things in their tracks," he commented.
On the other hand, the Peruvian leader reiterated that —during his term in office— he will not proceed with an amendment in the Constitution because there is not sufficient time to do so.
Remarks were made during an interview with journalists from investigative journalism TV programs Cuarto Poder, Panorama, Punto Final, and Dia D, which air on Sunday nights.
