'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' will significantly boost recovery of tourism in Peru

Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) Executive-President Amora Carbajal indicated that the election of Cusco and San Martin regions as locations for the shooting of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" will be fundamental in the recovery of tourism.

"For some years now, we have been working on a strategy to position Peru as a location destination, and the results can be seen in this election, which cements the country's position using a very powerful portrayal," she said in statements to Andina news agency.

"Furthermore, this contributes to the strengthening and creation of both direct and indirect sources of employment in the tourism sector," she added.

Carbajal explained that, in 2017, PromPeru launched Film in Peru —a platform featuring all the locations available for the shooting of movies, TV series, and advertisements— which audiovisual companies can use for the development of their projects.

"Peru has very interesting locations that provide unforgettable experiences, each with different microclimates, which are ideal for recording different audiovisual materials and film productions," the PromPeru official said.

"In addition, they feature our gastronomy, ancestral culture, landscapes like no other, archaeological remains; in short, there are a series of factors that definitely capture the interest of great film producers," she remarked.

According to Carbajal, Peru had to compete against Brazil to be the location of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts."

"Fortunately, thanks to all the efforts made, our country was chosen by Paramount Pictures," she stated.

Carbajal explained that, in this case, film producers make scouting trips to know —in depth— the characteristics of the place where the event will take place and to find out what the logistics will be like.
