on Tuesday affirmed that Peru "is literally being attacked" by the Presidents of Colombia and Mexico, Gustavo Petro and Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, respectively.
In remarks to reporters, he explained that for this reason an initiative is being proposed to allow
President Dina Boluarte to travel abroad and perform her duties remotely,
with the aim of exercising presidential diplomacy abroad.
"This proposal has a special connotation because the country is being literally attacked by two presidents, like Gustavo Petro and Andres Lopez Obrador, who have been attacking Peru; said attitudes have been categorically rejected," he stated.
Similarly, Otarola said it is clear that those top officials, together with
Peru's ex-President Pedro Castillo, "are alligators from the same well," whose policies match with
"mediocre and authoritarian administrations."
Therefore, the Cabinet chief specified
it is necessary for Peru's Congress to approve the initiative —submitted by the Executive Branch as a matter of urgency— so that the
President of the Republic is allowed to continue leading the Presidential Office remotely whenever she is not in Peru.
"Given this high responsibility and the personal defense of our country that the president has to exercise, we invoke a sense of urgency from the Congress of the Republic, and we are sure that they (its members) will act in this regard," he added.
