Peru reaffirmed its commitment to the accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) during a meeting held in Paris between Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Pareja and the organization's Secretary-General, Mathias Cormann.

During the talks held at OECD headquarters, the minister emphasized that Peru's accession to the organization is a State policy.

The government official noted that the process has been contributing to institutional strengthening, the improvement of public policies, and the promotion of the country's sustainable development.

The diplomat underscored the importance of ensuring continuity in the accession process during the transition to a new government, as well as maintaining the momentum needed to successfully complete the technical phase through coordinated efforts among the various national institutions.

At the meeting, the Cabinet member expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the various OECD bodies since the start of the accession process.

He noted that this support has enabled coordinated progress in the ongoing technical reviews and in the implementation of the organization's recommendations.

The minister also highlighted the participation of Peru's Prime Minister at the 2026 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting, held in early June.

He noted that this underscores the priority and cross-cutting importance that the Peruvian State assigns to the accession process.

Upcoming international activities

The latest meeting confirmed Peru's participation in the Ministerial Dialogue of the OECD Regional Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in an event on critical minerals organized by the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE).

Both events will take place in Madrid on June 30 and July 1.

They are part of the international cooperation and dialogue initiatives linked to Peru's OECD accession process.
