Peru President praises medical personnel, police and armed forces

16:46 | Lima, Mar. 27.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Friday afternoon expressed his appreciation and thanks to Peru's medical personnel, National Police, and Armed Forces for their commitment and collaboration during the current national emergency aimed to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19) spread.

The Head of State addressed the doctors, nurses, and other health professionals, as he highlighted their efforts at these key moments to contain the advance of this virus.

"On behalf of all Peruvians, I want to express the gratitude and recognition for your invaluable work, for your efforts and commitment under these difficult circumstances, as well as to extend the recognition to the thousands and thousands of health professionals across the country," he told the sector members.

Likewise, the top official highlighted the presence of doctors, nurses, obstetricians, biologists, medical technologists, pharmaceutical chemists, laboratory technicians, psychologists, nutritionists, health engineers, social workers, and administrative technicians, among other professionals —who fight COVID-19— at the Government Palace today.

Furthermore, the statesman indicated that 10 of the professionals present in the conference room provided the Government with interesting and valuable contributions, as well as suggestions that will be taken into account. For instance, a recommendation suggested that there should be no health server without life risk insurance.

"We still do not rely on interoperability in the health system. The health system (institutions) still work as islands (...), and that leaves citizens by themselves; instead, we should organize ourselves to distribute the resources for the corresponding care," he added.

In this sense, Mr. Vizcarra suggested taking the crisis as an opportunity to the improve health system and provide better care to each and every citizen.

President Vizcarra confirmed that coronavirus cases rose to 635 in Peru —out of a total of 10,065 samples taken. The death toll stands at 11.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers and other authorities. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Friday marks the twelfth day of mandatory social isolation.
