Peru applauds anonymous heroes fighting against coronavirus

00:00 | Lima, Mar. 18.

Loud applause and cheers from residents of various districts belonging to the city of Lima were heard on Tuesday night as means to thank the anonymous heroes who fight against coronavirus (COVID-19) —a disease that keeps Peru in 15-day mandatory social isolation.

At 8:00 p.m., children, teenagers, and adults opened their doors or went out to their balconies in order applaud the efforts undertaken by doctors, nurses, firefighters, police, and military members, who risk their lives and health working for the sake of other Peruvians.

Journalists from Andina news agency and social media users reported the display of solidarity and gratitude occurred in the districts of Lince, Surco, Surquillo, San Borja, San Isidro, and Miraflores.

In some cases, the residents even exhibited national flags and played the traditional song "Contigo Peru" (I am with you, Peru) by Arturo Cavero and Oscar Aviles at full volume.
