High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Tuesday expressed his "warmest congratulations" to Pedro Castillo, who has been recently proclaimed as President-elect of Peru.
"I extend my warmest congratulations to the future President of Peru Pedro Castillo on his election," the Spanish politician wrote on Twitter.
He said that the European Union and Peru are important partners, adding that they will come together to face multiple challenges in the social and economic recovery process after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The country's supreme electoral body proceeded to issue the proclamation of the results after it rejected the last appeals filed by Fuerza Popular political party against decentralized proclamations issued by Special Electoral Boards.
