Peru President: There is no political persecution, anti-corruption fight stands firm

15:00 | Lima, Dec. 18.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed it has been proven —through the Foreign Affairs Ministry— that there is no political persecution in the Inca country, adding the fight against corruption stands firm.

"We must commend the Foreign Affairs Ministry's work on the defense of the democratic system, the rule of law, and institutionalism," the Head of State expressed.

"Thanks to its contribution, we have managed to prove there isn't political persecution against anyone in Peru, and that the fight against corruption remains in place and will remain firm," he pointed out.

Likewise, the top official confirmed the Inca nation is committed to the defense of democracy and the respect for human rights in Latin America

"Peru's leadership at the international stage is clear. After having successfully organized the 8th Summit of the Americas, we are getting ready for a broad and diverse international agenda which will consolidate the country's image and projection to the world," he added.

Furthermore, the Inca nation will be the host of the 14th Pacific Alliance Summit in July 2019 and assume the pro-tempore presidency of the Andean Community

Composed of Peru, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico, the Pacific Alliance is an integration initiative focused on reducing trade barriers, as well as fostering the free circulation of goods, services, capitals, and people across its territories.

President Vizcarra also indicated Peru's foreign policy is a State policy based on democratic values, the promotion of multilateralism, conflict eradicationregional and global integration, plus the fight against climate change

Remarks were made during Peruvian Diplomatic Academy's 2018 graduation ceremony.
