President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday reaffirmed Peru's commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
"In an international context where nationalist speeches resurface —which promote economic and trade protectionism, discrimination, as well as xenophobia— I deemed necessary to reaffirm Peru's commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the
United Nations Charter," the Head of State expressed.
Moreover, the leader confirmed the Inca country's compromise with
free trade. He went on to highlight it has enabled the nation to create wealth, reduce poverty, and move forward towards sustainable development.
Within this framework, the President urged his peers to avoid implementing protectionist measures, as it would mean a setback for developed and emerging countries.
Likewise, the statesman expressed Peru's willingness to contribute to international peace and security, taking into account it is a
UN Security Council member.
In this sense, he highlighted the peacekeeping operations and harmonious work based on international humanitarian law.
