Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio on Tuesday reaffirmed the government's commitment to sustainable peace and conflict prevention.

Peru —as current United Nations Security Council chair— has convened an information session on the role this international organization plays in sustainable peace promotion.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, according to a supreme resolution approved last weekend by the Executive Branch. Said document granted the cabinet member permission to travel overseas for related official purposes.

During his speech at the UNGA High-level Meeting on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace, the minister announced he will present the Council with a resolution similar to the one the United Nations will adopt on peace.

"Peru, as current president of the UN Security Council, has convened a high-level information session on the Council's role in the promotion of sustainable peace (...)," reads a message posted by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Furthermore, the government official reaffirmed Peru's commitment to peace and conflict prevention.

The dignitary also ratified corruption is a transnational threat that affects democratic governance and undermines efforts to achieve peace worldwide.

Additionally, he recalled the strengthening of democratic governance and fight against corruption across the region was prioritized at the 8th Summit of the Americas held in Lima (Peru) on April 13-14.

Lastly, Popolizio noted that peace, security, development, and human rights are interdependent and strengthen each other.
