Peru President: Ratification of anti-corruption fight resulted in approval rise

President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed the 13 percentage-point increase in his approval rating was due to the ratification of his commitment for the fight against corruption, and not to the confrontation with the Legislative Branch.

According to the Head of State, his administration's work does not depend on polls, which sometimes show a rise in his approval numbers and —other times— a decrease.

"That (polls results) does not motivate us to change our attitude. We maintain the same attitude concerning the priorities we have as the Government (…)," he expressed.

As is known, the Vizcarra administration relies on the following axes: fighting corruption, maintaining the economic growth, as well as implementing programs linked to the social, health, education, and sanitation spheres.

Concerning Venezuelan migration, the top official indicated the entry of the Bolivarian nation citizens has not been forbidden, but minimum conditions have been required.

Peru currently hosts at least 800,000 Venezuelans.

As is known, humanitarian visas will be needed by Venezuelans starting June 15. This measure will enable greater migratory control and prevent the people —with criminal records and who might cause trouble— from entering Peruvian territory.

On the other hand, the statesman reaffirmed his administration seeks better institutions, a more transparent Judicial Branch, and politics that reach out to the citizens.
