Peru President: Economy to expand at higher rate in 2H 2019

17:48 | Huanuco (Huanuco region), Aug. 15.

President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday projected Peru's economic growth will pick up in the second half of 2019 and expand at a higher rate than the first one.

Likewise, the top official addressed the stance of the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Confiep) and the Tia Maria mining project, indicating that demanding respect for the rule of law must not equal "moving a project forward with blood and fire."

He went on to add it is about respecting the rule of law, the constitution, and laws, as well as listening to regional, local authorities and the population

Furthermore, President Vizcarra affirmed his administration supports private investments, provided that they show social commitment and respect the environment.

Remarks were made during the 480th Spanish Foundation Anniversary of Huanuco City.
