Peru President: Congress must change attitude towards political reform

17:49 | Alto Amazonas (Loreto region), May. 28.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed Congress must change its attitude, as it is not willing to reach the Independence Bicentennial —in 2021— with a stronger democracy through the political reform promoted by the Executive Branch.

In this sense, the Head of State indicated that —in order to achieve a better institutionalism in the Inca country— this reform must be first approved by Parliament

On the other hand, the top official pointed out that 50 investigations were opened while he had served as Moquegua region governor. However, none of them prospered, since his behavior has always been completely honest and transparent

Concerning his administration's actions regarding the 8.0 M earthquake that hit Loreto region last Sunday, he informed the Executive Branch is undertaking their best efforts to attend to all citizens affected by the natural disaster

Remarks were made during the delivery of property titles to native communities in rainforest Loreto region.
