Peru President urges elected governors transparency and hard work

11:37 | Lima, Dec. 17.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday urged newly-elected governors to work hard on their new terms (starting in January 2019) and be clear about their goals, as well as transparent in order to improve Peruvians' quality of life.

Likewise, the Head of State pointed out the next regional officials have the opportunity to make a difference by meeting their regions' needs

"For that reason, we are at your service. We must work together like we have been doing with the incoming authorities and the ones who are ending their terms (in office)," the top official expressed.

"If we work like that, then I am sure we will change the country's history," he affirmed.

Furthermore, the statesman suggested elected authorities to complete the unfinished works started by their predecessors.

"We guarantee the financing for all the ongoing projects. We prioritize the ones in progress. Governors will have their priorities, and we will support them, but they must complete what has already been started," President Vizcarra added.

Fight against corruption

On the other hand, the Head of State reaffirmed his administration will not stop the fight against corruption

"If we see a regional government working with transparency and honesty, then we will support them. However, if that is not the case, we will be the first ones to demand an exemplary punishment," he said.

"We need to regain citizens' trust in public institutions, and the only way to do it is through our actions," the top official stressed.

Remarks were made during the 9th GORE-Executive meeting held in Lima.
