Peru's non-traditional export volume increased 27.4% —in real terms— last May over the same month in 2017, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed Wednesday.
This positive result marked 19 months of continuous growth.
According to INEI's Technical Report on Evolution of Exports and Imports, said expansion was mainly driven by the good performance of
fishery (+118.3%) and
farming (+15.5%) sectors.
In this sense, the most demanded
non-traditional products included squids, giant squids, and cuttlefish (+211.4%), whole frozen prawns (+93.2%), shell-on prawn tails (+47.2%), tangerines (+32.6%), bananas (+22%), avocados (+17.6%), asparagus (+17%), as well as ground, crushed, and sliced paprika (+13.9%).
Total export volume
It must be noted China was Peru's major export destination (32.6%), followed by the United States (11.2%), South Korea (8.5%), Spain (5.3%), and Brazil (3.9%)
On the other hand,
Peruvian exports grew 10% in real terms between January and May 2018 over the same term last year.
