Peru Ambassador presents credentials to U.S. President

Peruvian Ambassador Hugo de Zela has presented his credential letters to U.S. President Donald Trump, thus accrediting his status as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Peru to the United States.

During the meeting held at the White House's Oval Office, the diplomat conveyed President Martin Vizcarra's wish to consolidate the traditional and deep bilateral relations, based on principles and shared values, such as the defense of democracy, respect for human rights, confidence in private enterprises and open markets, as well as the rule of law.

For his part, the U.S. President stressed that both countries enjoy a solid friendship based on shared commitments in favor of democracy, the free market, and the rule of law. 

He went on to add the partnership is strengthened in all sectors, including joint efforts to tackle corruption and transnational organized crime, especially with regards to the fight against the scourge of drugs, which threatens both nations.

Ambassador De Zela pointed out Peru and the U.S. also stand together to confront illicit activities and international organized crime.

"President Vizcarra has decided to directly attack illegal mining and related crimes in the affected regions of Peru, transforming them into zones of progress, development and well-being, and protecting the biological diversity of our country," the envoy concluded.
