Nobel Prize laureate Mario Vargas Llosa will receive today the Doctor Honoris Causa degree from Chile’s Andres Bello University in recognition of his outstanding work as journalist, essayist, dramaturge and novelist.
The awarding ceremony will be held at Casona de Las Condes where dean Pedro Uribe will personally award the Peruvian writer.
The ceremony will also include a speech from Mario Vargas Llosa before the staff members of Andres Bello University.
Mario Vargas Llosa will become the 13th academic to receive this award from the Chilean university. Other important people who have also received this award include Colombia’s former president Alvaro Uribe, Spain’s former president Jose Maria Aznar, Chile’s soprano Cristina Gallardo-Domas and poet and writer Gonzalo Rojas.
The Peruvian writer has also received the Doctor Honoris Causa degree from several universities such as Yale, Harvard, Oxford, and the Sorbonne among others.
