to commemorate the bicentennial of diplomatic relations with Peru and reaffirm the strategic importance of bilateral ties between the two countries.
The document recognizes 200 years of friendship, cooperation, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Representative Gimenez said the bilateral relationship goes beyond symbolism and reflects shared interests linked to regional security, economic development, and resilient supply chains.
Meanwhile, Robert Garcia, the first Peruvian-American elected to the U.S. Congress, highlighted the contributions of Peru’s community in the North American country.
Similarly, he expressed satisfaction at continuing to deepen the partnership between the two nations.
Key ally
The resolution highlights historic milestones in bilateral relations, including the Free Trade Agreement in force since 2009 and Peru’s recent designation, in 2026, as a Major Non-NATO Ally of the United States.
Accordingly, Peru is regarded as a "long standing critical partner in advancing stability, democracy, and prosperity in the Western Hemisphere."
Peru's Ambassador to the United States, Alfredo Ferrero, said the initiative reflects the “strong bipartisan support” within the U.S. Congress for relations with the South American country.
He also noted that the bicentennial represents an opportunity to project a new stage of economic integration and strategic cooperation.
