On behalf of the American people, United States Department of State Spokesperson Ned Price on Tuesday congratulated the Peruvian people for participating in their presidential runoff election on June 6.

"We commend Peruvian authorities for safely administering another round of free, fair, accessible, and peaceful elections, even amid significant COVID-19 pandemic challenges," he said in a press statement.

The U.S. official stressed that these "recent elections are a model of democracy in the region," adding that "we support allowing electoral authorities time to process and publish the results in accordance with Peruvian law."

The spokesperson also highlighted that both nations share a deep friendship rooted in the same fundamental values.

In fact, Price also indicated that cooperation between the United States and Peru through the years has improved public health, livelihoods, security, and environmental protections throughout the country.
