The process to elect Peru's next President and two Vice-Presidents for the 2021-2026 term has started all over the country and overseas as part of the runoff election.

25,287,954 Peruvian citizens —based in national territory and abroad— are entitled to cast their votes today, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The candidates for President of the Republic are Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular) and Pedro Castillo (Peru Libre).

The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) reported that —in a timely fashion— the electoral material has been distributed to 83,048 polling stations across the country with the support of the Armed Forces and National Police of Peru.

In total, 3,440 polling tables are to be set up abroad for 997,033 Peruvian nationals residing outside the country. The electoral process began on Saturday night in the New Zealand capital, Wellington, because of the time difference.

The ONPE urged voters to wear two face masks, bring an own pen to cast their vote, and go to polling places complying with the staggered voting schedule. Moreover, it called for compliance with safety and health protocols against COVID-19.
