Peru has achieved 40% progress in its accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), an effort that could be completed within two years, Prime Minister Luis Arroyo estimated Tuesday.

After meeting with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann in the French capital, he said Peru has made the greatest progress in its accession process among the eight countries also seeking to join the organization.

"We are 40% advanced in achieving full membership, and we estimate that, depending on the effort put into it, in a couple more years we will be ready to complete that accession," Arroyo stated.

"There is a great deal of confidence from the Secretary-General; he already knows how Peru is proceeding and the effort it is putting into it," he added.

The government official noted that the country is taking firm steps in its accession process.

The Cabinet chief noted that joining the OECD represents a State policy that will transcend all governments.

"It will allow us to adopt high standards in the public sector to develop public policies for the benefit of citizens. Peru is currently complying with the roadmap established for us in 2022 with tremendous rigor, and we will continue to do so," Arroyo pointed out.

The Prime Minister said the OECD Secretary-General is scheduled to visit Peru next December.

However, he has suggested bringing the trip forward to September, as it is important for the new government to establish immediate contact with the international organization.

Among the reforms implemented by Peru as part of its accession process, Arroyo mentioned the creation of the Deputy Ministry of Governance within the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

He noted that the Executive Branch has established multisectoral coordination to align its actions.

The Prime Minister reported that he participated as a panelist in the event "The Transformative Impact of OECD Accession," organized by the Republic of Korea, as well as in the Latin America and the Caribbean Forum.

"Peru's participation in this forum, which concludes tomorrow, represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen the country's international image and advance reforms aimed at modernizing the State, improving public services, and generating greater confidence among investors," Arroyo stated.

He added that it helps position Peru as a country committed to stability, strong institutions, and sustained development.

Lastly, the PCM head indicated that on Friday he will lead the Peru Roadshow – Investment Opportunities in Infrastructure and Public Services in Spain.
